Stop Press (or rather start press…)

Press plate

Colombian

After a long haul, my beautiful Colombian press is now fully installed in my studio.  Seems incredible that all that mechanical stuff creates a downward movement of just one centimetre.  What matters though is the pressure.  It’s basically the biggest nutcracker for miles around.  Now all I have to do is set it up and get it working in time for Spring Fling.  So if you want to see half a ton of working cast iron press made in 1860 or so (about the same time as the house was built), or if you just have some walnuts to crack, you know where I am.

Extremely grateful to Giles at AMR for moving this from its old home in Leith and coaxing it back to life.

Was just joking about the nuts.
